Hands-On Art History
Hi, I’m Rachel, the artist and educator behind SaltWave Creative. I teach engaging, art history inspired workshops that introduce students to famous artists, movements, and creative ideas from across time. With a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the University of Maryland and years of teaching experience, I bring professional design knowledge and hands-on instruction into every class. Workshops are intentionally kept small to allow for individualized guidance and are held in my home-based studio or at your community or co-op group. Teen Starry Night Paint & Pizza Night
Join us for a creative evening of art, inspiration, and pizza! Students will take a crash course in Impressionism and Post-Impressionism while learning about Vincent van Gogh and his iconic masterpiece, Starry Night. Using professional heavy-body acrylic paints, students will explore Van Gogh’s expressive brushwork and rich texture as they create their own Starry Night–inspired painting. No experience is needed! I’ll provide step-by-step guidance and individual instruction to help each student bring their artwork to life. Come ready to paint, learn, and enjoy a relaxed evening of creativity with friends!
*All high end art supplies included and every student goes home with an oversized Van Gogh inspired matted artwork!

Discovering Andy Warhol
In this teen workshop, students will study the iconic style of Andy Warhol and the Pop Art Movement he helped define. We will learn how Warhol used screen printing to transform everyday images into bold works of art through repetition and unexpected color combinations. Students will explore how contrast, color, and experimentation can change the meaning and visual impact of an image. Using these concepts, students will create their own Warhol-inspired self-portrait masterpiece.
*This workshop also includes a tutorial session on oil pastels.
*I provide all high-end art supplies which are included in the cost, along with a take-home folder with notes/resources. Students will go home with a complete matted and framed masterpiece!

Discovering Wassily Kandinsky
In this workshop, students will study Wassily Kandinsky, a groundbreaking artist who experienced synesthesia (seeing colors when hearing music) and used this unique perception to create a visual symphony in his work. This resulted in vibrant, rhythmic paintings. Students will learn about his innovative abstract style and create their own music-inspired artwork, translating sound into color, line, and movement.
This class includes a watercolor tutorial practice session.

Kandinsky Workshop Available for Your Small Group- choose your date!
Discovering Roy Lichtenstein
In this workshop, students will study Roy Lichtenstein, a leading figure of the Pop Art movement known for transforming comic book imagery into fine art. Students will learn about his bold graphic style, dramatic storytelling, and use of Ben-Day dots to imitate the look of commercial printing. Inspired by Lichtenstein’s techniques, students will create their own comic-style artwork using bright colors, strong outlines, and patterned dots to bring their designs to life.
This class includes experimentation with mixed media.

Discovering Pop-Art
In this workshop, students will explore the Pop Art movement and the artists who turned everyday products into bold, eye-catching works of art! We will learn about the history of Pop Art and how artists used composition, scale, and color to transform familiar objects into powerful images. Students will practice these concepts as they create their own Pop Art–inspired artwork featuring their favorite candy packaging.

Discovering Claude Monet
Students will discover Claude Monet, the leader of the Impressionist movement and a bold innovator once criticized for breaking tradition. Known for capturing light, color, and atmosphere, Monet transformed how art portrayed the world. Students will explore his impressionist style and create their own Monet-inspired painting that celebrates light and atmosphere.
This class includes a heavy-body acrylic tutorial practice session as well as the masterpiece workshop!

This Skills Workshop Series introduces students to the art of drawing through observation and sketching techniques.
